AmneziaWG: what it is and how to connect
AmneziaWG is a variant of WireGuard with additional connection parameters. It keeps what people like about WireGuard — a fast, stable connection and simple configs — and adds a few settings of its own. Panda Defender issues AmneziaWG configs on shared servers and on individual servers; you choose the protocol when you buy.
Apps for AmneziaWG
An AmneziaWG config does not open in the regular WireGuard app. Use one of these:
- AmneziaWG — on Google Play and the App Store; for Windows — from the project's GitHub page.
- AmneziaVPN — a client of the same project for phones and computers.
Both apps also open regular WireGuard configs, so one app is enough if you use both protocols.
How to connect an AmneziaWG config
- Buy a config with the AmneziaWG protocol on a shared server or on your individual server.
- Install AmneziaWG or AmneziaVPN.
- On a phone, scan the QR code from your account or the bot; on a computer, import the .conf file.
- Name the tunnel in Latin letters, up to 15 characters (for example, panda-de), and switch it on.
After connecting, check the address on the My IP page. If something does not work, the questions and answers cover the common errors.
WireGuard or AmneziaWG?
If you are not sure, start with WireGuard: it has official apps for every system, and setup takes a minute. AmneziaWG is useful when you already use the Amnezia apps or when support suggests it for your network. On an individual server you can keep configs of both protocols at the same time.
