What the numbers mean
-
Download
How fast data comes to you: websites, video, files. 25 Mbps is usually enough for 4K video.
-
Upload
How fast data leaves you: video calls, sending photos and files, backups.
-
Ping
How long a signal takes to reach the server and come back. Lower is better: up to 50 ms is good for games and calls.
-
Jitter
How much the ping changes from one measurement to the next. High jitter means stutter and echo in calls and games.
How we measure. Ping — the median of 20 short requests on an idle line, without the server's processing time; jitter — how much neighbouring measurements differ. Download and upload — up to 10 s each over 6 parallel connections; the first 2 seconds of ramp-up are not counted, and for upload only the data the server has confirmed counts. Ping is also measured during download and upload — that is the ping under load. Wi‑Fi, other devices on the network and your provider's load affect the result — for accuracy, use a cable and close downloads.
